Some snippets from a Power Rangers (2017 movie) fic I started. They've been sitting in my email drafts for a year, so I think it's time to release them to the wild.

The cliff probably wasn't the best place to meet if they wanted to avoid Zordon's monitoring. If he even was monitoring them, which they probably also needed to talk about.
(So far the trial and error approach had been more error than trial, but they at least agreed that wearing their color made controlling their powers easier. What they didn't know was why.)
Trini dropped her bag close enough to technically be part of the circle and crossed her arms. "I refuse to wear this shirt more than twice a week. Not happening."
Jason looked up and squinted at Trini's outfit. "You've worn that before?"
She rolled her eyes at him and handed Trini a bag of chips. "For what it's worth, I assumed you just had two of them."
Trini shook her head, but she took the chips. "Why would I have two of the same shirt?"
Billy raised his hand. "I do."
"Same," Zack said. "But that's cause they're sold in a pack."
Trini's voice was skeptical. "And yet you're wearing white."
Zack was lying on the ground, one arm over his eyes, but he pulled up the edge of his t-shirt. "Boxers? Undershirt? Not hard to find in black."
She turned to Billy, who had somehow been voted most likely to get useful information out of Zordon and/or Alpha. "Did Zordon say anything useful?"
"Yes. Well, no, not specifically, although really it depends on your definition of useful."
"He doesn't know?" Jason guessed, and Billy shrugged.
"His answer was, 'The power expresses itself through you at all times.'"
"So he doesn't know," Trini said.
Billy was sorting through the snacks they'd piled in the middle of the group. "They didn't wear clothes, so it's possible that it has literally never been an issue before."
Everyone stared at him. "What?" Jason asked.
Billy stared back. "What?"
There were a few seconds of silence, and then Zack said, "If they were naked, where did they keep the coins?"
"Why would they be naked?" Billy asked.
"They were morphed," Trini said, not looking at anyone. "Rita could control hers, change the way it looked."
Zack sat up, pulling the attention back to himself. "Okay, that's cool. Can we do that? Why did I not know we could do that?"
"We've barely figured out the default setting." Jason threw a meal bar in Zack's direction, and then started chucking them at the rest of the team. "Please eat something before you start experimenting."
She grabbed hers out of the air and threw it back at him. "Those are awful; you know that, right?"
"I like them," Billy announced.
She looked at Jason, who -- she was pretty sure -- was blushing. "Right. Well, enjoy."

"Do you do this with the others?"
Kim climbed the rest of the way in through the window before she answered. "Just Jason so far. Zack's usually easier to find somewhere else, and Billy actually answers his texts." She waved her phone.
"I read them," she said.
"That invitation included you too, you know."
"I'm busy."
Kim gave her a disbelieving look. "Sitting in the dark counts as busy?"
Her brothers chose that moment to burst into the room. They both froze when they saw Kim.
"It's fine," she said. "This is Kim. Kim, meet my brothers." She gave them what was hopefully a quelling look. "Be polite."
"Is she your girlfriend?" Miles immediately asked. Then he yelped when Mitchell elbowed him in the side. "What? She climbed in through the window! And she brought a bag!"
"That's just her backpack," Mitchell said.
"It's Trini's color."
She put her face in her hands. She could practically hear the gears turning in Kim's head. "In my defense," she said carefully. "I told them before we were told not to. And I didn't think they'd take me seriously."
"It's super obvious," Miles said.
Mitchell nodded. "And then Rita broke in and busted up your room."
"What?" Kim said. She was squinting around the room like she'd still be able to see evidence of the fight, which was the opposite of what she wanted anyone to do.
"I told you she was here." Did they think Rita had walked in, engaged in a little polite strangling, and then just -- walked out again?
"We would have helped fix it," Kim said, which -- wasn't what she'd been expecting.
"...Thanks." She looked at her brothers. "Bedtime. Go."
"Can we read?" Miles asked. "An hour?"
"Half an hour."
"Forty-five minutes."
"Done. But lights out now, and if you hear the car pull up, you're asleep."
They ran out again, and she turned back to Kim. "I'm on twin duty. Busy enough for you?"
"We got you stuff anyway," Kim said. "And they were right; the backpack's for you."
"I already have a backpack." It had seen better days, maybe. Their bodies might be able to handle cliff diving and rock climbing, but the power coins hadn't done anything for their gear.
Kim poked at the bag. "This one's waterproof. And it has racing stripes."
She rolled her eyes. "Well, in that case."

Zack's mom wanted to see him walk at graduation. Which meant Saturdays, thanks to his tenuous relationship with things like 'showing up at school.'
She wasn't entirely sure how that led to Trini being there too. She almost felt sorry for the substitute that had gotten stuck with detention duty that week. "You're not on the list."
Trini looked skeptical. "You know my name?"
The substitute sighed. "No. Sorry. But everyone else checked in."
"He's my ride," Trini said, pointing at Zack.
The substitute stared for a few seconds, then sighed again. "Fine."
Well, that was easier than she'd expected. She flung a note in Trini's direction and watched it make its way around the group on its way back to her.
Zack doesn't have a car That was from her.
Trini's reply said, he's showing me how to jump trains Zack had drawn a picture of something -- maybe a thumbs up?
Billy had added the day's train schedule, and Jason had printed BE CAREFUL, like he hadn't been the main instigator in getting them literally hit by a train. He'd put a smiley face after it, so maybe he was joking?
She tucked the note in her pocket and tapped her pencil a few times. It wasn't like she was going to do homework later; she might as well work on it now.
It took less than five minutes for the next note to skim past her ear.
saving Jason from his plaid problem - A for effort, C for execution
She stopped herself from laughing just in time and scribbled a reply before winging it back at Trini. I thought I was saving the rest of us -- at least we can't see it when it's socks (Honestly, where did you even find plaid socks? She'd turned her back for two minutes at the mall and he'd somehow stumbled into a plaid store.)
There had been a certain amount of back and forth about wearing their colors more obviously. Realistically, it was the least important problem they were dealing with, which made it automatically the most appealing to argue about.
She wondered if Trini had already done the bio homework. That didn't count as using their powers for personal gain, right?
